Just when you think you've seen the craziest K-Pop music video with last years Macaroni Cheese from Young Posse, they come back with XXL. Yes. It's insane and yes, I love it.
They really captured that early 90's hip hop feel of a group like Kriss Cross. The beat would fit right in as would their infectious style. I know the video was purposely silly, but it was still really well put together. I wonder how these girls are received, I think they rap better than a lot of the groups you've shown me and their stuff is catchy, it's also a fever dream.
They are from. smaller company, so aside from people reacting to how crazy their MV is, I've read their album sells are not great. Opening day they only sold 367 albums. Now I don't know if this was including digital albums or not, but this is pretty low. If we're saying the albums cost about $20 (physical albums are usually around 20-30 US dollars) then that means on opening day they got $7,340 which would even pay back that MV cost. Now i haven't seen numbers since then but usually your big boom is opening day. Perhaps the MV generated some sells afterwards. I hope so. They are one of the smaller groups I've been keeping my eye on... but after Macaroni Cheese, there should have been some buzz for them going into XXL and apparently there isn't. I think people just are watching the weird MVs and not really sticking around. Perhaps this is an instants where styling is hurting them? I don't know. Like I said, a lot of K-Tubers are reacting to XXL so they are getting exposer, Their MV has 4.3M views has it stands right now... which for a smaller group is okay. It's more than what Purple Kiss did 4 day ago with 929k views (which is devastatingly bad for a mid-level group like them). BUT yeah, some of my favorite groups are in trouble.
Speaking of Purple Kiss, the are on the promotion circuit on music shows, which just so happened to go along with (G)I-DLE randomly deciding to promote a b-track that is streaming extremely well in Korea. Soooooo Purple Kiss are basically getting ignored for a B-track, lol. God that hurts. It sucks when all my babies are battling! Music show wins won't be announced until later, but Purple Kiss is also struggling with album sells so a bigger group like (G)I-DLE most likely will them while half-assing it. (Seriously the B-track has no proper MV or choreography, so the girls are just singing live on stage with mics - and I guarantee you them being cute will overshadow Purple Kiss slaying it with their choreo)
Anyway, sorry for ranting about K-Pop again, lol. I have pictures on PIXIV if you haven't seen them. More Star Trek crap.
I always like you K-pop rants. Like you said with Young Posse, perhaps their digital sales or streaming sales are what is propping them up. They're stuff seems like something that might be bigger in the US than Korea and with the US, digital is king. Hopefully they do get a big spike in sales, because they seem like a fun group and like I said their rapping style really takes me back to those early 90's groups.
That sucks to hear about Purple Kiss. It happens everywhere though, a smaller group that puts a lot of effort in, gets crushed by someone with more name appeal. It doesn't help that (G)I-DLE, isn't just name value, but uber talented. I'm sure even a b-side from them is able to match up with other groups best efforts.
I always forget about PIXIV, let me see if I even remember my password.
The song is catchy, but that box art is <3.

In spite of all that effort being XXL, they were still overlooked for another group. Maybe they'll have to go for XXXL next time.
