The Coolest Name Ever

Posted by glee-chan - December 21st, 2023

When I was in High School, a student who was in at least one of my classes each year was girl named 'Raven Chapel'. This was her real name. With a name like that, the image that pops in your head is that hot goth chick who's over everything, or else that bad girl who's too cool for school.

This Raven was neither of those things.

In fact, Raven was a hot blonde cheerleader in a clic of other hot girls who reigned separately over us peons. In fact, looking her up now, she's STILL way to hot to be allowed. She's like that way too attractive teacher or neighbor you've fantasized about. She lives in a decent sized house, has ankle-biter dogs, a handsome country husband, and lives an ideal white girl life, filled with lattes and pilates.

One day. One day is the only time Raven Chapel lived up to her badass name. I can't remember the reason, but on that day she squeezed into some painted on leather pants, had a black spaghetti string top, and boots. She even had a leather jacket that she didn't wear because it was too hot that day. It left quite an impression on me...as you can tell because I'm talking about some chick who I'm sure I never once talked to.

Ever since High School I've always wanted to write a story with a character named Raven Chapel. The problem is that when I did write it was always set in Japan. The one or two times I did, I was partnered with another author who kinda dictated a lot of things. So I've never been able to use that ace I had hidden up my sleeve. Another problem might be that people might think that the name sounds so badass that it comes off as fake (even though a real ass cheerleader had that name). I don't know. I guess it's a missed opportunity.

I'm not sure why I'm talking about this....

You can tell we're getting old when we start talking about good ole days in high school, lol. Sounds like you did some cyberstalking. I understand the sensation though, some people who you barely interact with, will leave such a strong impression on you for the oddest reason, even more so than people you've spent a ton of time around.

Well part of it was that I wanted to make sure I wasn't sending a bunch of Glee-chan weirdos her way. I spelled her name incorrectly just to be safe, but it really is Raven Chapel. It took me some time finding her (and I knew what to look for) so I hope my misdirection also aids in that.

As a blondie, this name is pissing me off. Were her parents retarded? How can you name a blonde child Raven? lol This is worse than filipino naming conventions. The hot girl who hated me in school but who I wanted to do stuff to me ( or vice versa) was murdered by her husband, some loser not from here she met at a wedding after her long-term asshole of a boyfriend from high school dumped her (I'm sure he feels great about that now). So while I can understand these kinds of feelings, it can always be worse. A few other people who were much worse to me and not as hot I looked up on the olde Facebook, and they claim to be paragons of virtue now making the world a much better place. Gotta love social media. I'm sure if I talked to these people again, they wouldn't even realize how over the top nasty they were to me, but yeah. I don't talk to anyone from my high school anymore. lol

I'm pretty sure Raven didn't know I existed other than "that lesbian". My High School was small so you basically somewhat knew most people if they stood out in any sort of way. Given it was a backwater school in the south, I was an out of town transfer who liked girls. So people knew of me. I wasn't popular or anything but that's how it was. She knew as much about me as I did her, which was not much. I never got the impression that she was a "mean girl" or anything, just in the popular circle. Hell, according to FB her bestie now is another hot girl from that circle.

Perhaps it's time to make a new Raven Chapel character, with significantly more creative freedom, and perhaps a story that they could thrive in.

Well, damn, that is a cool name! .-.
And with that description, no wonder you want to make something with it XD
But question, you mentioned the things that kinda didn't work last few times; like what would you wanna do with her?

@glee-chan This is weird, I can reply now? Does this go to PM or your journal post? I'm replying to this in the bell alert icon. Well, not to be presumptuous like this is a contest or something, I'm about 100 percent sure you had an easier time in high school that me. From your descriptions, it seems like you were at least somewhat respected due to your confidence, which is awesome. I'm sure southern schools are small, but they have nothing on cornfield schools, my grade was like 40 people split into two classes. You couldn't be out of the closet there, because then they would just talk shit about you 24/7 and bully you over it, and they still bullied me over that even with me being in the closet. I guess I put out the wrong vibes? Yeah so it was a fucking nightmare. I still like mean girls though, I'm sure it's psychological, but it turned into some kind of thing for me. They're the only characters I care about in anything.
